The Giver is a dystopian novel that talks about a different community than ours. This book is very interesting, and like other good books, doesn’t give all the information at the start. It eventually introduces new information. I also liked that it doesn’t tell you all the information, you have to figure it out on your own. If you like fantasy (like me), I recommend this book for you to read because it is like fantasy.
While I was reading the book, I was thinking how horrible it would be to live in that community. The community is messed up but at first you don’t think that. They are safe from pain and suffering but also, they don’t really have the things that make us feel happy. They sort of have “feelings” but they are small and sort of fake feelings. I felt uncomfortable when I learned that all the pain and suffering and bad memories are entrusted to one person and one person has to handle all that. I also felt uncomfortable when I figured out that the elders were actually lying to them about this being the only world and it was like this forever.
If you like suspense, a story that can’t happen and the idea of a different world, then you will enjoy this book.
I would give this book a 5/5 because it is actually one of the best books I’ve read.
